Bikaner Guwahati Express Derailment, 5 , 45 injured
The Guwahati-Bikaner Express (15633) derailed at Mainaguri in Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal at around 5 pm. Five passengers have died in this accident. At the same time, around 50 people have been injured. Relief and rescue operations are being carried out on the spot. Several ambulances have taken the injured to the hospital on the spot. People are being pulled out using gas cutters.
Northeastern Frontier Railway CPRO Guneet Kaur said that efforts are on to take the non-affected passengers to Guwahati in a separate train. Kaur said 577 passengers were on board the train at the time of the accident. "Medical vans and ambulances reached the spot within 30 minutes and started treating the patients," he said.
Railway official gave this information at around 7.30 pm, “More than 20 passengers have been shifted to Jalpaiguri Super Specialty Hospital. The condition of five is critical." The passengers who were not injured were given shelter at Moynaguri Dharamsala and Moynaguri College. >> The death toll in the Jalpaiguri train accident has risen to five. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has condoled the Jalpaiguri train accident. He tweeted, "Spoke to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav and took stock of the situation in the wake of train accident in West Bengal. My condolences are with the bereaved families. Wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
As soon as the information about the accident was received, the top officials of the district, including the Railway Police Administration, reached the spot and started relief work, one of the coaches also landed in the water, from which the stranded passengers are being rescued. There was no stoppage at any of the nearby stations and the train was passing through the area. Since it is night time, there are difficulties in carrying out the rescue operation. CRPF is also reaching the spot. Two teams of ADRF have been sent from Siliguri to Jalpaiguri.
